Founded in 1956 by Giulio Novelli and Giovanni Quirici, Cuoificio Bisonte has over sixty years of experience in artisanal leather processing. Located in Santa Croce sull'Arno, in the province of Pisa, the company today employs thirty-five staff members dedicated to various stages of production. Santa Croce sull'Arno is recognized as a center of excellence, home to some of Italy’s most important tanneries, including Cuoificio Bisonte, which keeps the tradition of leather craftsmanship alive for the production of luxury footwear.
From the very beginning, the tannery specialized in
slow, exclusively vegetable tanning of leather for footwear, a technique that has made it internationally renowned. Additionally, the company was the first in Italy, over forty years ago, to perfect drum-dyed colored leather, a delicate process that requires highly skilled expertise.
Despite technological advancements improving productivity over the years, Cuoificio Bisonte continues to enhance artisanal leather craftsmanship. The careful selection of raw hides, sourced from the finest bovine leathers, and the slow vat tanning process using pure chestnut extract are carried out exactly as they were fifty years ago. These practices give the leather quality, softness, and water resistance, making the company a benchmark in the industry.
In the 1990s, Cuoificio Bisonte expanded its offerings with the "Cuoio Arredo" division, specializing in
leather coverings for floors and walls in yachts, boutiques, showrooms, and high-end hotels. Each project is customized according to the client's needs. Since 2000, the company has directly manufactured individual leather tiles with extreme precision, thanks to the use of lasers and CNC pantographs. Additionally, it has developed a special fire-resistant treatment to make the leather even more exclusive.
Cuoificio Bisonte continuously invests in researching new solutions and applications to meet the growing demands of its customers. Technology, tradition, design, and quality represent the secret of a company that, for over fifty years, has been a model of excellence in Made in Italy craftsmanship.
